ABOUT
Crowned the African King of the Blues by the Siphiwe Msimango Foundation in June 2023, Smoke continues to contribute to blues music on the African continent by using his talent and passion for the music but also highlights his role as a cultural ambassador for the genre in Africa.
The release of his debut album, "Bluesman Baby", in 2022 is a significant milestone in his career. The album's theme and story about an authentic hardcore bluesman, who lives by his own rules showcases Smoke's dedication to preserving the essence of the blues and its rich history. His ability to infuse the blues with a subtle African influence and his unique sound has resonated with audiences.In December 2024 Smoke released his second album Stop Blaming The Blues which was launched on his homecoming tour in Kwazulu Natal.
The establishment of The Smoke Train Blues Movement SA, where he invites local blues artists and blues artists from countries he's performed in where he takes them on tours of Gauteng, shows his passion for cultural exchange and respect for different traditions. This initiative not only promotes the blues but also fosters connections between artists from diverse backgrounds, enriching the global blues community.

Smoke is a resident artist at both Protea Marriott Wanderers and Protea Marriott Midrand in Gauteng, South Africa.

Zulu Blues Launch 2020:Launched the Zulu Blues with his mentor, Black Jack Van der Byl In Durban.
Virtual Performances (2020 & 2021): Smoke J Lawrence bridged geographical boundaries through virtual performances at Colombia's Bucaramanga Blues and Jazz Festival, reaching a global audience and further expanding his musical influence.
Corbera Blues Festival in Valencia, Spain (2023): Demonstrating his global appeal, Smoke J Lawrence performed at the Corbera Blues Festival in Valencia, Spain, solidifying his international presence.
Motherland International Blues and Jazz Festival : as a pioneering figure of the blues in South Africa ,Smoke put together a powerful team and took the MIJB fetival to Soweto (Naledi) in October 2024 .This was the first time the blues went into the township as a festival.
